Experience Flagship Excellence: Introducing the Xiaomi 13 Pro 5

Xiaomi 13 Pro will be available in India on February 26. The company has confirmed the launch date for its flagship 5G phone, as well as the fact that the global launch will occur on the same day. Company introduced the Xiaomi 13 Pro in China in December of last year. The latest flagship from Xiaomi, the Xiaomi 13 Pro, represents a path to redemption and an opportunity for users to own an even better and more polished Ultra device.

Recently, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 13 duo, including the flagship Xiaomi 13 and the premium mid-range Xiaomi 13 Lite. While the Xiaomi 13 is a compact device with a mainstream camera, the Xiaomi 13 Pro excels in all areas, including its camera capabilities.

Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the Xiaomi 13 Pro delivers exceptional performance and features a stunning 2K 120Hz OLED display. Additionally, it boasts a 50MP triple camera setup for capturing detailed photos in any situation. This is supported by a 4820 mAh battery with 120W fast charging capability.

Xiaomi has packed the phone with impressive specifications, but performance in real-life scenarios remains the ultimate test. Let’s explore how it fares in practical usage.

Design

The Xiaomi 13 Pro boasts a curved design, durable panels, a metal frame, and a large square camera housing featuring Leica branding. Its glossy appearance is the standout feature.

With its shiny exterior, the Xiaomi 13 Pro showcases a slightly curved Gorilla Glass Victus front and a similarly curved ceramic back. The aluminum frame, sleek and thin, is meticulously polished, available in either silver for the Ceramic White model or matching dark gray for the Ceramic Black version.

The most notable design change is the volcano-like camera housing at the back, gradually extending from the rear panel towards the camera glass. The Leica branding enhances its premium quality, and its substantial size ensures stability on flat surfaces.

However, the phone’s sleekness has a drawback: it compromises the grip. While the 6.73-inch LTPO OLED panel steals the spotlight, boasting thin bezels and a slightly curved Gorilla Glass Victus sheet, an optical fingerprint scanner resides beneath the screen, offering speed and reliability.

At the top, a small and impressively thin outlet accommodates one of the speakers, also functioning as an earpiece. The camera island on the back is the focal point, housing the 50MP zoom camera, 50MP ultrawide shooter, and the 50MP primary camera, along with the Leica logo. It also incorporates a laser emitter, a receiver for laser-assisted autofocus, and a dual-LED flash.

The volume control and power/lock key are located on the right side, while the top of the Xiaomi 13 Pro features two microphones, an IR blaster, and a small speaker outlet. The bottom houses the dual SIM slot, primary microphone, USB-C port, and speaker.

With dimensions of 162.9 x 74.6 x 8.4 mm and a weight of 229 grams, the Xiaomi 13 Pro offers a slim profile, similar to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra but slightly thinner. Notably, these measurements exclude the camera housing.

Display

The Xiaomi 13 Pro boasts a generous 6.73-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. While many mid-range phones offer similar features, what truly sets it apart is its 2K display with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and an impressive peak brightness of 1900 nits.

This high brightness allows for comfortable outdoor usage even on sunny days, approaching the brightness level of the iPhone 14 series, which offers around 2000 nits.

Moreover, the smooth and fluid interaction is enhanced by the 120Hz refresh rate, providing a delightful user experience.

Camera

The camera setup on the back of the Xiaomi 13 Pro resembles the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It consists of a 50MP primary camera with a 1″ sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens for optical zoom and Tele macro capabilities, and a 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus.

While the main camera is identical to the one on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the other lenses have unique sensors and lenses. All the lenses have been developed to meet Leica’s high standards, and users can choose from two Leica color profiles when capturing photos.

The camera app on the 13 Pro is similar to other Xiaomi models but with a red accent color in homage to the Leica collaboration.

Another Leica-inspired feature is the processing mode users must select when launching the camera. The options are Leica Vibrant (default) and Leica Authentic (color accurate), and users can switch between them as desired. However, there is no “generic” non-Leica auto mode available.

Additionally, an AI toggle can enhance contrast and saturation based on the scene.

In terms of video recording, the Xiaomi 13 Pro can record 8K videos at 24fps using the main lens. It can also record 4K videos at various frame rates. The 8K video recording delivers clear and detailed footage, and the presence of OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) ensures enhanced video stability for better overall quality.

Battery

The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a 4820 mAh battery, slightly larger than the 4500 mAh battery found in the Xiaomi 13.

Even with intensive usage, the phone offers a full day of battery life without any issues. Light users might even get some remaining battery power for a second day.

Software

The Xiaomi 13 Pro operates on the latest MIUI 14 interface, built upon Android 13. It’s commendable that Xiaomi has launched the phone with the most recent Android version pre-installed, ensuring an additional significant software update for users.

Furthermore, the updated MIUI version introduces a range of new functionalities. You can place an animated animal or plant on your home screen, providing a delightful greeting each time you unlock your phone. Moreover, privacy features have been enhanced in this MIUI version.

Performance

The Xiaomi 13 Pro uses the most advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, delivering top-notch performance. Paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage, this combination guarantees a smooth and uninterrupted user experience, ensuring exceptional performance.
