Xiaomi 11i 5G: A Mid-Range Performer

Xiaomi’s success in India has been impressive. Over the last several years, the business has released a number of smartphones that have been quite popular. For example, the Xiaomi 11i 5G was released in India on the same day as the even more remarkable Xiaomi 11i 5G HyperCharge (January 2022).

Charging on the Xiaomi 11i is limited to a meager 67 watts. The smartphone meets several needs. The question everyone is asking: is the Xiaomi 11i worth its price? Let’s investigate this further.

Design

Xiaomi, one of China’s many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), has released a steady stream of smartphones in various interesting color schemes and physical configurations. Seeing the Pacific Peal hue on the glass back of the Xiaomi 11i 5G is a visual pleasure. Camo Green, Pacific Pearl, Purple Mist, and Stealth Black are the four color options in India.

The gadget is on the heavier side, coming in at 207 grams. It is 163.64 x 76.19 x 8.34 mm in size. Some users may find it awkwardly large to utilize with a single hand.

But, visually, it’s a pretty appealing gadget. The protrusion for the camera in the back is a slick design choice. Put the back cameras at the bottom; a table is not a good place to store them without a cover (facing the surface). That’s OK since Xiaomi thoughtfully includes one free silicone case in the package.

The sides are flat, while the corners are somewhat rounded off. From the front, it resembles any other mid-range smartphone, but for the little circular cutout in the upper middle that serves as a home for the camera used for taking selfies.

The top and bottom of the Xiaomi 11i 5G function as stereo speakers. The device bottom houses the SIM card tray and the USB-C port. The left side of the gadget is left clean. The right side of the device has volume controls and a power button.

Display

The 6.67-inch Full High Definition Plus (2400×1800) AMOLED screen on the Xiaomi 11i 5G supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a touchscreen sampling rate of up to 360Hz.

Maximum brightness of up to 1200 nits is impressive for a mid-range device’s screen. Sunlight shouldn’t cause too much trouble for you to see the screen. In addition, the top is guarded by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5.

The Xiaomi 11i 5G has a Sunshine display, a Reading Mode, and the ability to detect light from any angle. In addition, the display is so fluid because it has a refresh rate of 120 hertz.

Camera

It has a 108MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera, all located on the back. The front-facing camera is a 16-megapixel punch hole.

When shooting in bright light, the 108MP main sensor’s pixel binning reduces the effective resolution to 12MP. Throughout, the colors and resolution are spot on. The bigger size of the sensor (1/1.52) improves low-light performance even when night mode isn’t on. You can get decent pictures with this one to satisfy the mobile photographer in you.

The revolutionary Dual Native ISO technology guarantees clear, noise-free shots, even in low light, when higher ISO settings are often required. Furthermore, this method ensures a low-noise performance at any ISO setting. Thus, you may take advantage of a quicker shutter speed and higher ISO settings for brighter pictures that are still color-noise-free, even in very dim conditions.

Software

Even more so considering Xiaomi’s spotty history with software upgrades, the fact that the 11i 5G runs MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 is a bit of a letdown. While it’s likely that the phone will be updated to Android 12 eventually, when that will happen is anyone’s guess.

However, MIUI 12.5 has several helpful features, including an app lock, a system-wide dark mode, and an always-on display that can be adjusted to your liking. Unfortunately, you have to sift through a lot of unnecessary software, but thankfully most of it is removable.

Performance

The Xiaomi 11i 5G is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G, which is based on an ultra-efficient 6nm processor and guarantees the smooth completion of any task. Thanks to its compatibility with eight distinct 5G bands, this modem spares no expense in the speed department. It’s not quite as potent as the Dimensity 1200, but it’s significantly improved over the Snapdragon 750G. It’s OK here whether you’re trying to multitask or just save some time when loading programs. You won’t have any issues playing games at the highest possible settings.

Both the Xiaomi 11i 5G and the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge series come in two storage and RAM configurations, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB, respectively.

Battery and Charging

The charging is the deciding factor. Surprisingly, the Xiaomi 11i comes with a 67W charger to go along with its 5,120mAh battery and capability for fast charging at that speed. So while it won’t charge as quickly as HyperCharge’s 120W charger, this one should do the trick for everyone.

According to Xiaomi, the 11i can be charged from dead to half power in only 15 minutes with the 67W charger. Lastly, the 11i has a 5,120mAh battery. Thus it should last for around two days.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi 11i, beginning at only Rs 22,999, is a very durable smartphone. Despite its flaws, this smartphone offers a satisfying experience overall. The Xiaomi 11i has a gorgeous screen, a powerful and dependable CPU, and long battery life. However, the photography is noticeably worse compared to rival smartphones and even other Xiaomi models. So, if you’re looking for a new smartphone, you may want to consider the Xiaomi 11i.

For those keen on the 120W charger, the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge is an alternative. But if we’re being really forthright, the Xiaomi 11i appears to be a better deal than the HyperCharge. The 67W isn’t that sluggish; you can easily fill the additional 15 minutes with productive activity while saving money.
