Samsung galaxy F23 5G: Well-rounded Offering That Stands Out In This Segment

Get ready for some tech talk! In March of last year, the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G was unleashed onto the world. But unfortunately, it didn’t exactly receive a warm welcome. Why, you may ask? Well, it was the first device under Rs 20,000 that didn’t come with a charger inside the box – talk about a buzzkill!

Despite the intense competition in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 price range, with brands throwing in all sorts of features like AMOLED panels, fast charging, powerful processors, high-resolution front cameras, and more, Samsung decided to stick to its core offering. As a result, you’ll find a TFT panel, an 8-megapixel front camera, and 25W charging (minus the charger, of course!) all bundled up in the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G, priced at Rs 15,999. So, are you ready to take the plunge?

Design

Let’s talk about the sleek design of the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G! With its simple yet sophisticated approach, the phone has a clean, neat, matte finish on the back. While some might expect a fancy texture, Samsung has gone for a more understated look, which works! The only downside? The phone is made of plastic, which might seem a bit ordinary, but we promise it won’t detract from the phone’s overall aesthetic appeal. All in all, the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G is the perfect combination of simplicity and style!

Since the rear is resistant to fingerprints and smudges, you may go caseless. Indeed, there is no case included in the packaging. The three cameras and LED flash are housed on a rectangular camera island on the rear. The rounded designs of the frames make the phones simple to grip.

The phone’s light weight of 198 grams makes it convenient to take with you wherever you go.

Controls for the device’s volume and power, which also functions as a fingerprint reader, are located on the right side of the body. A full-sized SIM card slot on the left side of the device is compatible with two nano SIMs and a MicroSD card. On the underside, you’ll find a single speaker, a USB Type-C connection, and a socket for headphones.

As the device does not have an ingress protection (IP) certification, it should be kept dry and clean. Once, when visiting a waterfall, we failed to remember to remove it from our pants. We pulled the phone out of our wet pocket hours later, and it still worked.

Display

The thick bezels around the display and water drop notch might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but fear not! The phone boasts a large 6.6-inch display with a Full-HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2408, perfect for all your video-watching needs. While its predecessor had an AMOLED display, the Galaxy F23 5G is rocking a TFT LCD. But don’t let that deter you – the display is surprisingly impressive! I’ll admit I didn’t have high expectations for a TFT LCD, but it quickly grew on me. The vibrant colors and the texts and icons appear crisp and clear. Plus, the viewing angles are totally fine! So, dive into that Netflix binge because the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G has covered you!

Since it supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz, scrolling is silky smooth. Perhaps an adaptive or 60Hz setting is available for activation; 120Hz is not viable. The adaptive settings will alter the refresh rate when you use various apps.

Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the phone screen from damage. Since Samsung hasn’t specified an absolute maximum brightness, it shines brightly in the sunshine. Without an ambient light sensor, the smartphone relies on the front-facing camera to adjust the brightness, which may take several seconds.

When it comes to playing games and viewing movies, the Samsung Galaxy F23 5G’s single bottom-firing speaker delivers more than enough volume. The radio system is nice too.

Camera

It’s important to start by praising the Galaxy F23 5G’s cameras. The Samsung Galaxy F23 5G has a 50-megapixel, 8-megapixel, and 2-megapixel camera system on the rear for taking photos. In addition, it sports an 8-megapixel camera up front. The camera app has a ton of different settings, and one of them is called “Fun,” which lets you put stickers on people’s faces. In addition to Pro, Single Take, Night, Food, Panoramic, Macro, Slow motion, Super Slo-mo, and Hyperlapse, there are a variety of other shooting modes to choose from.

Maximum rear-facing camera video resolution is 4K at 30 frames per second. Great news, since several popular companies have recently abandoned support for 4K video recording on smartphones priced at less than Rs 20,000. However, the lack of EIS support means that shaky video recordings are unavoidable. Nevertheless, the footage recorded by the camera is of high quality, with vivid colors and clear images.

Battery

Samsung has decided to give the Galaxy F23 5G a smaller battery capacity than its predecessor, the Galaxy F22, which had a 6,000mAh battery. However, don’t let the smaller battery size fool you – the Galaxy F23 5G still packs a punch with its 5,000mAh battery unit. With a 120Hz refresh rate and adaptive brightness, the device can last you for almost a day and a half with a screen time of 8 to 9 hours – pretty impressive, right? So, you can use your phone all day and still have enough battery left to make important calls or watch your favorite show before bed.

Software

Samsung’s Galaxy F23 5G runs on One UI 4.1, built on top of Android 12, and has a security update from June. Samsung’s assurance that the Galaxy F23 5G would get software upgrades for at least another two years after its initial release is cause for celebration.

This phone comes preloaded with so much unnecessary software that it easily surpasses the Redmis and Realmes of the globe. The extraneous components can be removed, thankfully. The Glance wallpaper, effectively a portal for ad-filled backgrounds, loads automatically when the phone powers up. It’s also configurable in the preferences.

Performance

The phone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, which might not be the newest kid on the block, but it gets the work done. As a mid-range System-on-chip (SoC), it’s been around for a couple of years now, meaning that developers have had plenty of time to optimize their apps and games.

And let’s not forget about the phone’s memory configuration – it’s available in both 4GB and 6GB RAM options, with a whopping 128GB of internal storage. But wait, there’s more! You can expand the storage to 1TB using an external MicroSD card. Plus, the phone even supports 6GB of virtual RAM, which means that a portion of the internal memory is allocated as RAM.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly phone that can withstand years of use, Samsung’s Galaxy F23 5G might be worth considering. While it may not be the best option for younger smartphone users who prioritize speed, a clean interface, and rapid charging, it’s a well-rounded device that boasts a well-optimized processor, a smooth display, a solid camera setup, a long-lasting battery, and a feature-packed UI. As with any smartphone purchase, it all comes down to your priorities and what you value most.
