Redmi 11 Prime 4G – A Budget Smartphone with Impressive Performance

The Redmi Prime series phones consistently introduce impressive entry-level devices into the Indian smartphone market. Recently, Xiaomi unveiled two versions of the Redmi 11 Prime, available in both 4G and 5G variants. Both models share similar build quality and offer a range of features to cater to diverse users seeking affordability. These phones have been available in online and offline markets since September 2022.

The Redmi 11 Prime 4G boasts several enhancements over the Redmi 11 Prime 5G, including a more robust processor, a long-lasting battery, and an equally capable camera setup.

Priced at 12,999, the Redmi 11 Prime 4G base model has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is available for 14,999. The product offers three vibrant colour options: playful green, striking black, and peppy purple.

Design

The Redmi 11 Prime 4G stands out from the Redmi 11 Prime 5G through its distinctive external design. Constructed with a polycarbonate case, the phone features a back panel adorned with an eye-catching diamond pattern, providing an improved grip and reducing the chances of accidental slips. However, it should be noted that the device carries a weight of 201 grams, which may contribute to its slightly bulky feel when held or carried. On the front side, one can observe a water-drop notch housing the front-facing camera, adding to the phone’s sleek appearance.

While Xiaomi emphasises the protection of their devices with Gorilla Glass, they have not specified the exact category of Gorilla Glass utilised in the Redmi 11 Prime 4G. Positioned on the right side of the device, you will find the volume rocker for easy accessibility. Additionally, the phone incorporates a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for quick and secure unlocking. Notably, the Redmi 11 Prime 4G includes a charging port featuring a Type-C connector, offering convenient and speedy charging capabilities. Furthermore, users can enjoy the flexibility of connecting their headphones via the 3.5mm audio jack, allowing for a seamless audio experience.

Display

The Redmi 11 Prime 4G display remains unchanged, with no notable updates or enhancements. It still features an LCD panel measuring 6.58 inches, providing an ample viewing experience. The display maintains its Full HD Plus (FHD+) resolution, ensuring sharp and vibrant visuals for users to enjoy.

Continuing with its impressive features, the Redmi 11 Prime 4G retains the same 90Hz refresh rate as its predecessor. This smooth refresh rate allows for fluid scrolling, seamless transitions, and improved overall user experience. What sets this display apart is its three-stage refresh rate technology, which intelligently adapts the refresh rate based on the displayed content. Power consumption is optimised by adjusting the refresh rate dynamically, resulting in better energy efficiency and prolonged battery life.

Regarding brightness, the Redmi 11 Prime 4G boasts a measurement of 400 nits, ensuring clear visibility even in well-lit environments. This high brightness level allows users to use their devices outdoors without visibility issues comfortably. Additionally, the touch sampling rate of 250Hz guarantees accurate and responsive touch interactions, providing a smooth and lag-free touch experience.

Camera

The camera setup on the back of the Motorola 11 Prime 4G has undergone notable improvements, particularly in the number of sensors included. Unlike its predecessor, the Motorola 11 Prime 4G now features a triple-camera configuration, offering users more versatility and creative possibilities in their photography.

The primary camera and the depth sensor on the back of the Motorola 11 Prime 4G both boast a resolution of 50 megapixels, ensuring sharp and detailed captures. These high-resolution sensors work in tandem to deliver impressive depth effects and enhance the overall image quality. Additionally, a dedicated macro camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels has been included, allowing users to capture stunning close-up shots with intricate details. It’s worth noting that the 5G variant of the phone does not come equipped with this macro camera feature, which is a missed opportunity by Redmi.

However, one aspect that may disappoint some users is the absence of an ultra-wide lens in the camera setup. The lack of an ultra-wide lens limits the phone’s ability to capture wider scenes or fit more subjects into a single frame, which could have been a valuable addition for photography enthusiasts.

Moving to the front-facing camera, the Motorola 11 Prime 4G features an 8-megapixel sensor, a common smartphone resolution within this price range. While it delivers satisfactory results for selfies and video calls, Redmi could have opted for a more competitive 16-megapixel sensor, allowing users to capture more detailed and vibrant self-portraits.

Battery

The Redmi 11 Prime 4G maintains the same 5000 mAh battery found in the 5G version, indicating no changes in this device aspect. According to the company, the phone boasts impressive battery performance with up to 133 hours of music playback, 28 hours of video playback, and 45 hours of continuous call time. Interestingly, despite including a 22.5-watt charger in the package, Motorola has limited the device’s charging capability to 18 watts, which is somewhat puzzling. The device features a Type-C charging connector at the bottom, allowing users to connect it to their chargers. While the overall battery capacity is satisfactory, the charging speed of 18 watts falls short of expectations.

Software

The Motorola 11 Prime 4G operates on the identical Android 12 operating system, accompanied by the MIUI 13 interface overlay, similar to its counterpart, the Motorola 11 Prime 5G. Unfortunately, unnecessary pre-installed applications, often called bloatware, remain unchanged.

Performance

Despite being priced lower than its 5G variant in India, the Redmi 11 Prime 4G boasts a more powerful chipset. Including the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset in this device offers exceptional performance within its price range. This new processor, built on a 6nm architecture, ensures a smooth and reliable user experience. The Redmi 11 Prime 4G has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, enabling seamless multitasking and effortless app-switching.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, it is expected that 5G services will become available in India soon. However, suppose you intend to use a phone for an extended period. In that case, opting for the Redmi 11 Prime 4G version is advisable due to its reliable build quality and a handful of features that include commendable performance and battery life.
