The Realme C55’s Little-Known Secret: The Mini Capsule

Realme C55

Realme has finally dropped its budget smartphone in India, and it looks pretty much the same as the international version. Plus, it’s available in the same colours too! However, the coolest part is that the phone’s Dynamic Island notification system, like the one on the iPhone, is making its debut on this device. And guess what? It’s the first Android phone to have this feature!

So, there are three versions of the Realme C55, with different amounts of RAM and storage. Prices range from Rs. 10,999 for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage model, Rs. 11,999 for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage model, and Rs. 13,999 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage model. The phone will be available to buy from March 28.

Design

The build quality of the Realme C55 is excellent, and it has the look and feel of a high-end smartphone. Many may be surprised to learn that this is a cheap phone with a price tag of less than Rs 12,000. The phone’s back has a lovely gradient that isn’t flashy or too understated to catch the eye. The phone is offered in two colour schemes: Sunshower and Rainy Night. The rear panel may have beautiful golden, blue, and even green reflections.

The Realme logo is pretty understated and can be found on the phone’s left side. On the other hand, the camera is a bit more flashy and stands out with a glossier finish. It has a 64-megapixel main camera, a 2-megapixel depth lens, and an LED flash – all neatly arranged in the module. Inside the module are the words “64 MP AI Camera” in a classy font.

The camera’s body looks pretty sleek but can get dusty. So, it’s a good idea to clean the camera module regularly. The phone’s volume controls and fingerprint scanner are on the right side, and the SIM card slot is on the left. The speakers are loud. They can go up to volume level 200! Plus, there’s a 3mm jack and a Type-C charging connector at the bottom.

The phone has Panda Glass on top, which protects the screen, while the rest of the body (like the frame and back panel) is polycarbonate. Although the back panel looks pretty cool, it has two different finishes – matte and polished- surrounding the cameras. And the frame has a matte finish too. As for its weight and thickness, it’s not exactly super light or heavy – it’s 7.89mm thick and weighs 189.5g.

Display

The phone has an impressive 6.72-inch screen with a small camera cut-out and hardly any borders. However, I’m hearing that the screen can easily get stained or scratched, so it’s best to get a screen protector.

The C55’s screen is the first one in the C-series to have a refresh rate of 90Hz and a resolution of 1080×2400. It’s also super bright with 680 nits, so you can easily use it outside, even on a sunny day. Plus, the colours are vibrant, which makes watching videos, playing games, or just using the phone, in general, a real treat.

Camera

You probably don’t expect to be blown away when it comes to cameras on low-end smartphones. But the Realme C55 has some pretty decent features. The main camera is 64 megapixels, and the front-facing camera is 8 megapixels. You can use the main camera to access the Bokeh Flare Portrait mode and the AI Color Portrait option. Plus, some other cool modes include time-lapse, panorama, and slow-motion shooting modes. Using the Pro Mode, you can manually adjust things like ISO and autofocus. However, the picture quality won’t be the best if it’s pitch black outside. But, all in all, the camera is pretty good for the phone’s price range.

Battery

The battery life on the Realme C55 is pretty impressive. It has a 5000mAh battery that can easily last a day and a half with average usage. And get this: the 33W SuperVOOC charging feature is actually a first for a Realme C-series smartphone.

But, as is typical for phones in this price range, the battery may drain faster under more demanding conditions, such as while playing games. About battery life, Realme claims that half a charge may be achieved in less than 29 minutes.

Software

The Realme C55 comes with Realme UI 4.0, which is based on Android 13, right out of the box. The phone’s security level is set to January 2023, but if you update it, it’ll go up to March 2023. A few third-party apps are already installed on the phone, but if you don’t want them, you can just remove them.

Performance

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 processor, which makes for a fluid experience. However, it lacks 5G radios, unlike competitors like the iQoo Z6 Lite 5G.

The Realme C55 has a dedicated slot for expanding the phone’s storage and comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage, both of which are compatible with microSD cards with capacities of up to 1TB.

Mini Capsule

Here’s something interesting that Realme hasn’t talked about much – the “Little Capsule.” Apparently, it’s still in development, like how the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G fingerprint scanner doubles as a heart rate monitor.

So, the Realme Mini Capsule is subtle. You might not even realize it’s turned on. The company says that it can be used to let you know when your battery is charged or low, how much data you’ve used (with a message when you’re getting close to your limit), and to track your step count (with a notification). But, unlike Apple’s Dynamic Island, you can’t touch the Mini Capsule to get more information about things like battery life. Instead, that info shows up in the status bar. Realme seems to be working on improving the Mini Capsule feature, so maybe it’ll be even better in future versions.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for an affordable smartphone priced under Rs 12,000, then the Realme C55 is definitely worth considering. It looks great, has some cool features, and performs smoothly overall. Realme seems to have tried to give budget smartphone buyers the best of all worlds with this phone. The base version of the C55 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and is priced at Rs 10,999. All in all, it’s a pretty good deal for the money.
