Realme 9: Budget 4G Phone

Realme announced the launch of their new Realme 9 smartphone in India after the introduction of numerous other devices in the Realme 9 series over the last few weeks. The Realme 9 has a 108-megapixel main camera, a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen, and a 5,000mAh battery, all driven by a Snapdragon 680 CPU.

Let’s check out Realme 9’s features, pricing, and specs to see what the company has in store for us. The Realme 9 4G has a 90 Hz 6.4-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen. It has a Snapdragon 680 system-on-chip (SoC) and supports up to 8GB of RAM, with an additional 5GB available for dynamic RAM expansion while multitasking. The Realme 9 G has a 5000 mAh battery and a 33-watt primary back camera.

Realme 9 4G pricing in India begins at Rs. 15,900 for the 6GB RAM and storage combination, while the 8GB and 128GB RAM and memory variants. Realme released smartphones with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for an initial price of Rs. 15,900.

Meteor Black, Stargaze White, and Sunburst Gold are the three color options for the smartphone, which will be released on the market on April 12 at 12:00 PM. With the help of Realme.com, Flipkart, and conventional retailers.

The Realme 9’s decision to stick with 4G makes it a more versatile phone than its 5G rival, but it still has to do more to displace Xiaomi as the go-to affordable smartphone.

Design

The Realme 9’s battery life is comparable to that of rivals, but its weight is much lower. Unfortunately, even though it’s lighter than most rival phones, this one isn’t as comfy. The major reason for this is the device’s side profile design, which does not provide a comfortable hold and has sharp edges surrounding the screen.

When you set the phone down, the buttons make a cheap noise and wobble somewhat. This isn’t a huge problem, but it’s also unpleasant. As a result of these drawbacks, the Realme 9 4G doesn’t provide the same level of refinement as its rivals. If you utilize a case, however, you can avoid or fix most of these issues.

Display

The Realme 9’s screen has a refresh rate of only 90 Hz, which is much lower than the 120 Hz offered by most smartphones in its price range. One of the significant flaws of the phone, in my opinion, is that the screen refresh rate is just 60 frames per second. In addition, the screen is a high-definition AMOLED device protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.

To begin, the screen is bright enough that even in broad daylight, you can see the information shown. There was a lot of jitter for a 90Hz panel. Thus, even though the refresh rate is 90Hz, the display often seemed like a 60Hz device.

The gadget has an unbalanced appearance due to the punch hole’s placement on the left side. In addition, the Realme 9’s display is subpar in comparison to rivals in the same price range because of its lower refresh rate and the left-mounted punch-hole.

Camera

Realme 9’s 8MP ultrawide camera produces oversaturated colors and grainy photos because of its lack of fine detail. However, other smartphones in the same price range have ultrawide cameras that produce similarly high-quality photos.

The 2-megapixel macro camera lets you get up and personal with your subject (4cm). It’s a shame the picture quality isn’t better.

The Realme 9’s 16-megapixel front-facing camera is on pace with its rivals. These photos are vivid, with true-to-life colors and a wealth of fine details.

The Realme 9’s video recording capabilities max out at 1080p at 30 frames per second. This is enough for most users, particularly considering that the primary lens’s optical image stabilization (OIS) helps maintain a stable video feed even while the user moves.

Battery

With its 5,000 mAh battery and efficient chipset, the Realme 9 has an impressively long battery life. One charge may last up to two days of use, including roughly 10 hours of screen time. This includes online surfing, social media app use, texting, phoning, photographing, and more. The charging process is just as spectacular. You’ll need to set aside roughly an hour to fully charge the phone’s battery.

Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 inside the Realme 9 isn’t the most powerful chip available at this price point, and the phone’s underwhelming performance reflects that. The phone may have a 90Hz display but can’t handle complex animations or smooth transitions.

Moreover, the Realme 9 lags and takes much longer than rivals to launch apps and toggle between them. While heavy multitasking does not cause the phone to freeze, the experience is far from seamless.

If you just use your phone for making and receiving calls, sending texts, and checking email and social media, this device will still meet your needs. Even light gaming is doable, while more intensive games may suffer from frame rate drops.

Software

The Realme 9 comes with the Android 12 operating system and the Realme UI 3.0 skin. Realme UI 3.0’s customization shines because of its abundance of practical privacy tools, including App Lock, Private Safe, and System Cloner. In addition, flexible Windows, Kid Space, Quick Return, Smart Sidebar, and Simple Mode are just some of the many helpful features that make it a breeze to use your smartphone.

Together with these functions, the program also provides a wide variety of settings for tailoring the user interface to individual preferences. This includes modifying the appearance of the device’s icons and quick-settings toggles, switching between pre-installed theme packs, and customizing the Always-On Display, fingerprint animation, UI accent colors, and edge illumination.

Conclusion

To fit a 108MP camera within the price point, Realme downgraded the phone’s chipset and screen. As a result, the main camera on the Realme 9 takes better photos than its competitors. Still, the phone’s video capture is below par, its performance is a little slower than the competition, and its display isn’t as good.

Is the camera’s quality high enough for you to forgo a more powerful processor and a larger screen? Is it OK to use a CPU that cannot support the display’s native refresh rate? Think about it before jumping ahead for Realme 9.
