Realme 10 Pro: Unique but familiar

In India, on November 17, 2022, Realme debuted the Realme 10 Pro and Realme 10 Pro Plus. Both of the new smartphones have a similar external appearance, but they are fundamentally different on the inside. The Realme 10 Pro is a high-end smartphone with a 108-megapixel primary camera, a Qualcomm chipset, and a 5,000mAh battery. Therefore, examining the Realme 10 Pro’s Indian pricing and features is a must.

The phone has a 6.72-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels (FHD+) and can refresh at 120 hertz. The available RAM sizes range from 6GB to 12 GB. The Realme 10 Pro operates on Android 13 and is powered by a 5000mAh battery. In addition, the exclusive rapid charging mode is available on the Realme 10 Pro.

The Cost of the Realme 10 Pro in India

The retail cost of the Realme 10 Pro in India is Rs. 18,999. The Realme 10 Pro comes in three different color options: Nebula Blue, Dark Matter, and Hyperspace Gold.

Priced at Rs 18,999 (about $298) in India, the Realme 10 Pro comes in a base model with 6GB of RAM and internal storage of 128 GB. However, you’ll need to shell out Rs 19,999 if you want the 8GB/128GB configuration.

Design

The Realme 10 Pro maintains the same visual language as before. The 10 Pro’s back and display are flat in comparison to those of the Realme 10 Pro Plus, which are curved. The 10 Pro’s hole-punch aperture is centered, in contrast to the Realme 9 Pro 5G’s placement of the camera cutout on the left side of the device. The smartphone has a fingerprint sensor on the side, twin stereo speakers, a 3.5mm jack for headphones, and a USB Type-C port, among other things.

LCD screens are notable for their ultra-narrow bezels. The bottom lip is somewhat narrower than is typical for products of this price. The front-facing camera notch is much larger than you’d see on a standard OLED display. The hole is larger than on an OLED panel, but it doesn’t get in the way.

Display

The Realme 10 Pro has an LCD screen that is 6.72 inches across and provides a resolution of Full HD+. Unfortunately, Realme did not introduce the Pro with an AMOLED screen. But this LCD seems to be of very excellent quality. The highest brightness setting is 680 nits. The touch sampling rate is 240 Hz, while the refresh rate is 120 Hz.

Despite using a high-quality IPS LCD panel, Realme still lags behind competitors with significantly better OLED displays. There won’t be any really dark shades, but backlight leakage is almost nonexistent. The selfie camera has a little tint, but it’s only evident against a white or bright backdrop.

Camera

The Realme 10 Pro has a camera with a resolution of 108 megapixels, captured using a Samsung ISOCELL HM6 module. The Nonapixel pattern it offers is intriguing since it effectively reduces the pixel size by a factor of nine. Unfortunately, this gadget lacks an ultrawide camera in favor of a superficial 2 MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera is 16 megapixels, so you can use it for selfies and video chats. It’s important to note that this smartphone has a better camera than the Realme 9 Pro.

Oppo’s and Realme’s camera app is preinstalled. There are fewer menus, which is nice, and most of the settings can be accessed from the main contact list.

AI Scene Enhancement is available in the viewfinder in the default Photo mode as an advanced HDR option that may stack many photographs to increase dynamic range. However, to this day, the increased color saturation stands out as the “improvement” that is most noticeable. And you can even have auto HDR if you want it.

Battery

Both the Realme 10 Pro and Realme 10 Pro Plus include a 5,000 mAh battery with fast charging technology. However, neither of them supports wireless charging, nor can it be utilized to provide power to the other. In addition, the Realme 10 Pro is unique in that it supports 33W fast charging. However, the Realme 10 Pro Plus supports rapid charging at 67W.

Speakers

This version of the Realme phone is the first to have stereo speakers. The primary one is situated at the frame’s bottom, while the second one doubles as an earpiece. Unfortunately, the audio is likewise subpar. The lack of bass and midrange makes the tracks seem a little too flat, and the highs begin to ring at higher volumes.

Software

The Realme 10 series is among the first non-Pixel smartphones to ship with Android 13 out of the box. And that’s really unusual in the midrange category, so shortly after the official release of Android 13. The new Realme 4.0 is visually similar to the previous version.

The new Aquamorphic theme in Realme UI 4.0 is the biggest change from the previous version. It provides a fresh and contemporary perspective on the Android interface. There is a version of this theme for Oppo and OnePlus phones as well.

Realme UI 4.0 includes enhancements to the notification and control centers, smoother animations, dynamic widgets, and the new Media Controls introduced with Android 13.

Performance

The Snapdragon 695 5G chipset has been seen in use before. However, the processor has been completely redesigned since the Snapdragon 690, despite the little number bump in the moniker. The device is built on TSMC’s cutting-edge 6nm manufacturing process and has updated CPU cores and a GPU that is both faster and more powerful. The previous Snapdragon 690 didn’t have this feature.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Realme 10 Pro boasts a new design and some subtle but important improvements. However, the ultrawide-angle camera makes the Realme 9 Pro 5G’s setup seem better.

The challenge of finding that sweet spot between novelty and familiarity is the Realme 10 Pro’s central predicament. It improves upon the Realme 9 Pro with a fresh look, larger screen, updated Android version, more memory (RAM) choices, dual speakers, and a more impressive camera sensor. However, its 5G speed and 8GB of RAM were the highlights. Unfortunately, the CPU and battery capacity are both conservative, and the 33W charging is a significant drawback.

You should choose the Realme 10 Pro if you value a sleek appearance, a bezel-less screen, a large battery, a 3.5mm audio port, and respectable performance.
