Motorola Edge 30 fusion: Stylish, Exceptional Hardware, but Cost Could Be Lower

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion, the company’s latest premium mid-range smartphone, was released in India last year. Motorola’s Edge 30 Fusion, a midrange smartphone dubbed a “flagship killer,” falls between the Edge 30 Pro (Review) and the flagship Edge 30 Ultra. Customers looking for flagship-level performance without the flagship price tag will be pleased with the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ is the top-of-the-line mobile processor from 2017.

Despite boasting flagship-level performance, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion stands out with its high-quality build and useful extras. Can the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion hold its own against other premium handsets competing for the title of best smartphone under Rs. 50,000? That’s what we’ll find out.

There is just one storage option available for the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion in India. The phone’s single configuration, which includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, costs Rs. 42,999. There is no microSD card slot. Therefore, we were hoping for at least 256GB of storage. The company provides a minimum of two color choices (Cosmic Grey and Solar Gold).

Design

When it comes to how it feels in your hand, few smartphones can compete with the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion. The aluminum frame, rounded screen, and rear glass contribute to the high-end aesthetic. The Edge 30 Fusion weighs just 179 grams while being made out of high-end materials and packing a 4400mAh battery. It’s also one of the thinnest high-end phones in India, measuring only 7.45mm.

Even from a distance, the Edge 30 Fusion’s Cosmic Grey color gives off an air of sophisticated elegance. Solar Gold is available for individuals who like something more eye-catching. A matte coating on the back window prevents fingerprints and smudges. The phone has minimal protection against dust and water, earning it an IP52 rating.

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion does not have a 3.5mm audio port. However, it does have dual speakers. However, you’ll get stereo sound from both the bottom-mounted speaker grille and the earpiece above the screen. The SIM card slot and USB Type-C connector are at the bottom. The right-hand side’s power and volume controls are well-positioned and responsive.

Display

With its towering 6.55-inch pOLED display and full-HD+ resolution, and 144Hz refresh rate, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is a powerful smartphone. The display’s crisp colors and narrow borders make it ideal for watching media. The front-facing camera cutout sits at the top. This display can reach a maximum brightness of 1100 nits.

The device is Widevine L1 certified so that you may stream in the highest possible definition (FHD+, 1080p) from services like Netflix. The panel’s quality includes wide viewing angles, accurate colors, and a high contrast-to-brightness ratio. The HDR material looks fantastic on the screen. It has an Attentive display, a Peek display, and edge lights for use in varying lighting conditions, including strong sunshine. The latter may illuminate the screen’s borders to indicate incoming calls, notifications, charging, and other events. It’s possible to turn off the function in the configuration menu if you find it annoying. However, the rounded screen design makes it more likely that unintentional touches may occur.

Camera

In this pricing bracket, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion has some strong hardware that should provide a nearly flexible photographic experience. That’s right. There’s no telephoto lens available. The main camera on this phone is 50 megapixels and has optical image stabilization (OIS), while the ultra-wide camera is 13 megapixels and supports autofocus for shooting macros. A depth sensor with 2 megapixels is also included. The front-facing camera on this phone has 32 megapixels, making it ideal for taking very high-quality selfies.

When it comes to video, the primary back camera can record up to 8 kilobits per second at 30 frames per second. As a result, it’s able to create accurate hues and has respectable dynamic range performance. The ultra-wide angle camera has a maximum frame rate of 4K at 30 frames per second. As a result, it can capture vivid colors with a limited dynamic range compared to the primary camera. The front-facing camera can record video at up to 4K at 30 frames per second, and although the dynamic range isn’t great, the overall quality is fine.

Software

With regards to software, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion comes preloaded with Android 12. Even though Motorola’s bespoke skin MyUX is sitting atop the phone’s operating system, users won’t notice any difference. Staying true to Android’s basic UI, this phone has no unnecessary extras like bloatware. In addition, you may use two karate chops to toggle the flash, twist to open the camera app, swipe to split the screen, double touch to wake the screen, and three-finger screenshots with this device. In addition to three years of software support and two major Android upgrades, the phone has a two-year warranty. Finally, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion comes with extra hardware-based security options, including ThinkShield and Moto Strongbox.

Performance

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion comes loaded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ system-on-chip (SoC) and 8GB of random-access memory (RAM), making it capable of handling any work you throw at it. But unfortunately, the phone only comes in one configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage, which may be a deal breaker for certain customers.

Conclusion

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is an excellent smartphone with a sleek design and a wealth of useful functions. The phone has high-end components and a pleasant interface. The camera performs well, but some adjustments to the software are required to bring out its full potential. In addition, it would have been wonderful to have a bigger storage choice since the phone can record up to 8K films but only has 128GB of internal storage.

When compared to other smartphones that include a Snapdragon 888+ SoC, the Edge 30 Fusion’s price of Rs. 42,999 is on the higher end. However, the  Edge 30 Fusion is a great option if you value portability and sturdiness.
